Don Davis

Deputy Director, Electronics, Optics, and Systems

Dr. Don Davis currently serves as a Deputy Director for Research at GTRI, and leads the Electronics, Optics, and Systems Directorate. This organization serves as a trusted partner to DoD sponsors, bringing new capabilities to the warfighter including enhancement of legacy systems, modeling and analysis for decision support, and next generation technologies including advanced LIDAR, RF Photonics, EO and RF electronic warfare, microelectronics and advanced materials, LVC and HSI supporting technology transition and training, and missile defense.

He has more than 35 years of experience developing solutions and leading engineering organizations in a diverse array of technologies, including telecommunications components and equipment, network hardware and software, electronic test equipment, and embedded systems for a wide range of applications. Before joining GTRI, Don served in leadership roles in a range of established and early-stage startup companies including Bell Laboratories, Bandwidth9, coaXmedia, and Arris.

Prior to his current role, Don served as the Division Chief for Robotics and Autonomous Systems, a division GTRI dedicated to the development of new technologies for unmanned systems, including collaborative autonomy, intelligent robotics, and test and evaluation of platforms and systems. Don also led the Signals and Systems branch at GTRI, addressing signal intelligence and electronic warfare applications.

Don received his BS in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University, and his MS and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech.
