Ryan Hersey, Ph.D., is the Director of the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) in the Georgia Tech Research Institute’s Sensors and Intelligent Systems Directorate. He leads a lab of more than 250 researchers, developing and implementing advanced sensor and electronic warfare systems from initial concept through real-time prototypes. He received his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Georgia Tech and his M.S. and B.S. degrees in engineering science and mechanics from Penn State University.
Hersey is highly experienced in the field of adaptive array processing, particularly in the application area of ground moving target indication (GMTI) through space-time adaptive processing (STAP). He has specific interests in SAR-GMTI processing, dismount detection, coherent change detection, conformal arrays, space-based radar, systems engineering, and real-time processing. Hersey was recently named to the USAF Science Advisory Board, a very competitive White House appointment. He has refereed journal publications on adaptive processing for conformal arrays and has received several best paper awards at the IEEE Radar Conference and Tri-Service Radar Symposium. Hersey is a recipient of the IEEE Fred Nathanson Memorial Radar Award. He serves as a track chair for the IEEE Radar Conference and has also developed and taught STAP, GMTI, Adaptive Radar, and Airborne AESA Radar short courses offered by Georgia Tech.
